Abstract

The Robert Bishop Research Files contain research material related to Bishop's research and teaching interests in folk art, particularly furniture. It contains primarily secondary source material including photographs, new clippings, and articles. Bishop collected these files as a resource for his many published books about furniture, as well as for teaching at the Folk Art Institute.

Abstract This collection contains three whole plate tintypes (8.5" x 6.5"). They are portrait photographs, depicting a single woman, a single man, and a duo of younger women respectively. There is very little provenance for these items at this time. Sara Lynn Henry collection related to Elijah Pierce

Scope and Contents

The material includes about 70 slides of Pierce in his studio and barbershop, as well as images of his work. The slides were taken with an art historian's camera.

There are also four reels of audio recordings. One has an interview between Henry and Pierce, the next has notes that Henry made to herself about the visit. The other two were given along with the collection, but it is suspected they are both blank reels. The audio reels have been digitized.

The collection contains 136 mounted gravestone rubbings, created by Susan H. Kelly and Anne C. Williams, between 1977 and 1983. The rubbings represent gravestones dated 1650 to 1800. The stones are from all across New England, with the majority being from Connecticut.

The Farber gravestone collection depicts approximately 600 gravestones in photographic prints and slides. The gravestones were primarily carved before 1800, and are in the northeast region of the United States. Daniel and Jessie Lie Farber were early gravestone enthusiasts, and helped to form the Association for Gravestone Studies.
